Honouring Our Seniors: A Legacy of Faith and Forgiveness
SIXTEENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST
PROPER 19
My Brothers & Sisters
As we celebrate Senior Citizens’ Month, we give heartfelt thanks for the elders who have shaped our families, our church, and our nation. Their lives are living testimonies of perseverance, faith, and quiet strength. They remind us that the journey with God is long, beautiful, and often marked by moments where forgiveness becomes the bridge to healing.
Scripture teaches that forgiveness is not optional - it is a pathway to freedom. “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” (Ephesians 4:32). Some of our seniors have lived this truth. They have forgiven through hardship, disappointment, and change. Their stories show us that forgiveness is not forgetting; it is choosing peace over bitterness, hope over hurt, and love over resentment.
This month, let us honour our seniors not only with words, but with actions:
· by listening to their wisdom,
· by valuing their presence,
· by caring for them,
· by extending grace where misunderstandings may linger,
· and by practising forgiveness in our own relationships.
May God grant us the humility to learn from those who have walked ahead of us, and the courage to forgive as Christ forgives. In celebrating our senior citizens, we celebrate God's faithfulness across generations - a reminder that His mercy endures forever.
