The Humble King

SUNDAY OF THE PASSION

PALM SUNDAY

Brothers and Sisters,

Today is the Fifth Sunday of Lent when we celebrate Palm Sunday: Passion Sunday . It is a Sunday of celebration and humility.

In Matthew 21:5 , it is written “He is a coming to Jerusalem, a servant to his people riding humbly on a donkey. As we mark the beginning of Holy Week, we are reminded of Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. The crowds cheered waving palm branches and laying down their cloaks acknowledging him as a long-awaited Messiah.  The atmosphere was electric, filled with hope and expectation, they knew that their King had arrived and they were ready to follow him.  Jesus came not with pomp and power, but with humility and love.  He did not come to conquer in force, but to conquer hearts with compassion.   Jesus did not come to demand worship, but to offer himself as the ultimate sacrifice.

Brothers and sisters, in a world that often values, status and power, Jesus shows us a different way, that true greatness is found in serving others, not in seeking to be served. Jesus demonstrates that the way to true life is through humility and surrender, not through pride and self-promotion.  As we reflect on this moment, let us examine our hearts. Do we welcome  Jesus as king or do we hold back? Are we willing to lay down our pride and ambitions for his sake? Are we willing to take our cross and follow him even when it is hard?

As we journey through Holy Week, let us remember that Jesus’ way is not always easy or popular, but it is the way to true life and freedom.  So brothers and sisters, join the crowds in praising him. Follow him in humility, and service; let us lay down our lives for his sake, trusting him who has laid down his life for us.

May this Palm Sunday be the start of a deeper journey with Jesus, as we surrender to his Lordship and love. May we be inspired to serve others, ’to love mercy and to walk humbly with God.’

Yours in Christ,
