THE SECOND SUNDAY AFTER CHRISTMAS
My brothers and sisters
It is with mixed emotions that we welcome the New Year, 2026, after the western part of our island experienced the devastation of the Category 5 hurricane Melissa. As we observe the passing of the old year and the coming of the new year, we have the opportunity to reflect on the past, to thank God for his faithfulness, to look with a sense of hope for a year filled with possibilities, as we express our trust in God of all the years.
As a people, we have had the opportunity to demonstrate love and care for the victims of the hurricane; additionally, the private sector, multinationals, and our brothers and sisters in the Diaspora have contributed generously to assist the relief process. Thanks to members of the Cure for your generous contribution. The recovery process will be long, but we trust that God will lead and empower us to facilitate it. I am inviting us to revisit the theme “Covenanted to worship, witness and work” as the Cure celebrates 150 years of worship, witness and work in God’s vineyard. Various events will be held to mark this occasion, and it is my prayer that we will revitalize our worship, renew our commitment to witness to the Light of the world, and be more engaged in the work God has given us in Christ.
I want to express gratitude to the members who responded to the Mission Share appeal, which demonstrates that ‘with God all things are possible.’ Special mention to the leaders of the Birthday groups and the members for their commitment and contributions over the last year, amid the challenges. Please think on the following quotation from Pope Francis.
“Rivers do not drink their own water; Trees do not eat their own fruit. The sun does not shine on itself, and flowers do not spread their fragrance for themselves. Living for others is a rule of nature. We are born to help each other...
Life is good when you are happy, but much better when others are happy because of you. Let us remember that pain is a sign that we are alive, problems are a sign that we are strong, and prayer is a sign that we are not alone. If we can acknowledge these truths and condition our hearts and minds, our lives will be more meaningful, different, and worthwhile.”
Happy New Year!
Yours in Christ,
Patrick+
