Rising in Faith: Hope Amid the Storm
Fellow Saints,
As we gather on All Saints’ Day, our hearts are heavy with the losses brought by the recent hurricane - homes, churches, businesses, crops, and animals swept away, streets flooded, lives overturned and lives lost. The destruction has left many feeling overwhelmed, anxious, and uncertain about the future. The journey to rebuild is filled with frustration, fatigue, and moments of doubt. But our celebration of All Saints’ Day offers a beacon of hope amidst the rubble.
As we face the many challenges, the spirit of the Saints remains unshaken. Their legacy of grace, courage, and love rises above the debris, reminding us that holiness is not confined to stained glass or stone altars. It lives in the hands that rebuild, the prayers whispered in shelters, and the songs sung in the open air.
Let this All Saints’ Day be a declaration to all who are struggling in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa that:
Hope is stronger than destruction.
Faith survives the hurricane.
We are never alone, for God is with us and the communion of Saints surrounds us.
We remember those we’ve lost, honour those who serve, and recommit ourselves to being saints-in-the-making - healers, rebuilders, and bearers of light. We embrace the courage to start again, the compassion to help our neighbours and the resilience to keep moving forward, even when the path is hard.
As Scripture says in Hebrews 12:1: “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”
Let us run that race together, even through the ruins, toward restoration - trusting that every act of rebuilding, every shared sorrow, and every spark of hope is part of a greater story of faith and renewal.
Let us remember our brothers and sisters whose places of worship have been destroyed, praying that their arm may be strengthened to “rise up and build.”
Your fellow traveller on the journey,
Patrick+
Gracious God,
In the midst of loss and uncertainty, we turn to You for strength and comfort.
Grant us courage to rebuild, compassion to help one another, and faith to persevere.
May the example of the saints inspire us to be healers, rebuilders, and bearers of hope.
Surround us with Your love and the fellowship of all Your saints,
So that together, we may journey toward restoration and renewal.
Amen.
