Emancipendence

Sisters and Brothers,

As we gather today for worship and fellowship, we are also here to celebrate Jamaica’s 62nd year of independence as we reflect on the journey of our beloved nation and the values that have defined us. This year’s theme, "Jamaica 62: One Love…To the World," echoes our commitment to unity, love and our impact locally and globally.

At the heart of our nation and faith is the concept of "One Love," a principle that calls us to embrace each other with compassion and understanding.  It is a reminder that despite our differences, we are all God’s children, created to love and support one another.  Let us take this moment to rekindle our love for each other, our communities, and our nation.

Our heritage and culture are not just for us to cherish but to share with the world.  Jamaica’s influence in music, sports and culture has touched lives far beyond our shores.   As followers of Christ, we are called to be ambassadors of His love and grace to the world.  Let us use our talents and resources to make a positive impact locally and globally, reflecting the love of Christ in all we do.

This Emancipendence, we also remember the struggles and triumphs of our ancestors. Their resilience and faith paved the way for the freedoms we enjoy today.  We honour their legacy by striving to build a just and equitable society, where everyone can thrive.

“Let us love one another, for love comes from God.  Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.” - 1 John 4:7.

In the spirit of "One Love," let us:

1.    Love Unconditionally: Just as Christ loves us, let us love without conditions. Reach out to those in need, offer forgiveness, and ex-tend a helping hand to our neighbours.

2.    Promote Unity: Embrace diversity and work towards unity in our families, communities, and nation. Let us be peacemakers and bridge-builders.

3.  Impact Locally & Globally: Share the blessings we have received with each other and the world.         Support missions, engage in local and global outreach, and pray for nations around the world.

As we celebrate, we continue to remember and keep in our prayers our sisters and brothers who were and still affected by Hurricane Beryl as we come together to rebuild and support one another.  Let us also be a beacon of hope and faith to our wider community.  We are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus, offering love, assistance and prayer to those in need.

In these challenging times, let us hold fast to the truth that our Lord is sovereign over all things and He cares deeply for each one of us. Together, we will weather this storm and emerge stronger in our faith and unity.

Let us in our celebration also commit to being the light of the world, spreading love and hope to all we encounter.  May God bless Jamaica and may His love shine through us to the world.

Happy Emancipendence!

With love and blessings,

Kamar +
